About

A focused data team

We help organizations move data reliably, integrate the systems they depend on, and turn that data into reporting leaders can act on.

DataStages is a data engineering and analytics consultancy headquartered in Toronto, working with clients across North America. Our team of engineers and analysts specializes in the Microsoft data platform — Azure, SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI — because going deep on one ecosystem keeps solutions coherent, supportable, and cost-aware.

We're deliberately focused. Rather than being generalists who touch a little of everything, we do a small number of things well: building the pipelines that move your data, the integrations that connect your systems, and the models and reports that make it all useful. That focus is what lets us move quickly and build things that hold up over time.

Leadership

Led by a hands-on principal

Sam Nameh

Principal Consultant

Sam brings more than 20 years in enterprise data. After earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, he began his career building DataMirror Transformation Server — later IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture — one of the pioneering products in cross-database replication, work that took him deep into more than a dozen databases, from mainframes to SQL Server.

He went on to senior consulting roles with IBM Global Business Services and Clarity Systems (a pioneer of enterprise financial reporting), delivering for enterprise clients across North America and Europe. Since founding DataStages, he has led dozens of engagements across banking, utilities, manufacturing, and logistics.

As fluent in financial, operations, and sales concepts as in the data behind them, Sam has watched the field evolve since the first OLAP cubes, and for the past decade has been a committed advocate of the Microsoft data platform — today centred on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake.

"The tools change every few years. The fundamentals — reliable data, and numbers people can trust — never do."

What we value

The principles behind the work

Reliability

We build data infrastructure that runs — monitored, tested, and resilient — because reporting is only useful if you can trust it.

Clarity

Plain language, documented decisions, and reporting designed to be understood — not to impress.

Ownership

We take responsibility for outcomes, not just deliverables. If something isn't right, we make it right.

Pragmatism

We pick the simplest thing that solves the problem well, and we don't over-engineer for its own sake.

Our stack

Microsoft-first, end to end

We go deep on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake — the unified platform for pipelines, lakehouses, and reporting — so your data lives in one governed place and stays that way.

Microsoft Fabric

Microsoft Fabric

One platform for pipelines, lakehouses, warehousing, and BI — the foundation we build every engagement on.

OneLake

OneLake & data lakes

A single, open, governed lake for the whole organization — one copy of your data, no silos, no lock-in.

SQL Database

SQL Database

Relational SQL — in Azure and inside Fabric — for the transactional and operational workloads that live alongside the lake.

Power BI

Power BI

Governed semantic models and dashboards that put trusted numbers in front of decision-makers.
